Site of the famous Nebuta festival in August each year that sees huge floats (many depicting scenes in Japanese history) parade through the streets before being launched onto the ocean - when, for some reason - they become known as Neputa (p as opposed to b). Chilly place in winter so best visited in summer when its location means it is much cooler than Tokyo.
